Celebrities’ Party at the Penthouse of Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta

Jakarta, October 2011 - Fifie Buntaran, one of the well-known Indonesian models recently celebrated her birthday with a cheerful party at the Penthouse of Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta. Fitness Day with Sheraton

Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta Marks the Launching of Signature Fitness Program in Jakarta by Hosting Outdoor Aerobic Exercise.

In celebration of the rollout of the new Sheraton Fitness Programmed by Core Performance®, the brand’s revolutionary new health and fitness program in Asia Pacific, the Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta marches down its guests, associates and partners to get fit through weekly outdoor aerobic exercise called “Fitness Day with Sheraton”, held recently at the premises. Approximately 100 fitness participants attended the event to commemorate the importance of maintaining wellbeing in daily life.

Executive Assistant Manager Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta, Algamar Idris said, that fitness and travel go hand in hand and nowadays fitness becomes priority when people are on the road. “We truly understand that our valued guests need improvement in their quality of life while traveling. Sheraton Media Hotel &Towers Jakarta has recently introduced a new culinary promotion called Jimbaran BBQ Festival at its all-day-dining restaurant Breeze Café located on the 6th floor of the hotel. Available from Monday to Saturday from 6pm onwards, the barbecue promotion runs through end of November 2011.


The Jimbaran BBQ Festival is a stylish dinner buffet promotion which offers a wide array of delightful succulent char-grilled dishes, including some of the finest master-pieces created by well-experienced chefs. Offered menus include a vast selection of healthy salad which consists of 20 different types of salads from four continents, 10 selections of main courses plus additional 5 traditional menus discretely displayed in the Nusantara corner, a special counter of home made breads and bakery products, and a wide range of desserts that includes both local and delicious International cakes, cookies, sweets, Ice cream and fresh fruits.

Sheraton Media Partners Etos to Conduct Mosquito Fogging

To prevent the spreading of dengue fever that usually comes during rainy season, Sheraton Media Hotel & Tower Jakarta hosted insect and mosquito fogging in residential areas.

Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta has recently assigned its team to help community host mosquitoes fogging in their homes. With the help of Ethology System (Etos), 20 associates were driven to eradicate mosquito breeding sites in the residential area from Jl. Industry 2 and 3, trough Jl. Gunung Sahari Raya, Jakarta.


The initiative was a regular event that has been carried out since couple years ago. The event aimed at helping community create a clean, healthy environment and free of disease outbreaks, especially those transmitted through mosquito bites.

Anti Nyamuk untuk Semua

Gandeng Etos, Sheraton Media Basmi Sarang Nyamuk

Guna mengantisipasi timbulnya penyakit demam berdarah yang datang di musim hujan, Sheraton Media Hotel & Tower Jakarta turun ke jalan melakukan menyemprotan nyamuk dan serangga di pemukiman penduduk.

Sheraton Media Hotel & Towers Jakarta baru baru ini menerjunkan timnya untuk membantu warga melakukan penyemprotan nyamuk dan serangga di pemukiman setempat. Dengan bantuan ahli serangga dari Etology System (Etos), sedikitya 20 karyawan hotel digerakkan untuk membasmi sarang nyamuk di pemukiman penduduk sekitar Jl. Industri 2 dan 3, serta Jl. Gunung Sahari Raya, Jakarta.

Supir Angkot = SALESMAN

Pelajaran Salesmanship dari Supir Angkot di Jakarta

Belakangan ini Jakarta digegerkan dengan pemberitaan tentang kriminalitas yang terjadi di Angkot (Angkutan Kota). Sudah menjadi rahasia umum, angkutan umum adalah media yang nyaman buat para kriminal melancarkan aksinya. Mulai dari pencopetan, penjambretan, penodongan, pengamen yang mengancam, pengemis yang memaksa, perampokan, hingga pemerkosaan dan pembunuhan.

Salah satu yang paling parah terjadi baru-baru ini adalah pemerkosaan dan pembunuhan mahasiswi BINUS (Bina Nusantara) yang naik angkot jurusan Slipi-Kebun Jeruk. Belakangan diketahui pelaku tindak kriminal itu adalah komplotan penjahat yang bekerjasama dengan supir Angkot. Yang bikin ngilu, ucapan Gubernur DKI Jakarta di media massa sama sekali tidak menunjukkan simpati terhadap korban pemerkosaan dan kaum hawa pada umumnya. Dan ini justru makin memicu kemarahan kelompok pejuang gender. Saya juga heran, kenapa tokoh sekaliber Gubernur kota metropolitan memberikan statement yang justru memojokkan posisi dia.

Balik lagi ke urusan Angkot. Memang, salah satu problem dan carut marutnya sistem transportasi umum negeri ini adalah fakta buruknya kondisi dan pelayanan seluruh tipe angkutan umum kita, baik itu Kereta Api, Kapal PELNI, Kapal Ferri, Angkot, Metromini, Kopaja, Kopamilet, Mikrolet, maupun Transjakarta (busway).

Pastinya, ada banyak faktor kenapa kondisi angkutan umum kita sangat memperihatinkan bahkan cenderung tidak manusiawi. Nah, dengan makin maraknya tindak kriminal yang terjadi di angkutan umum di Ibu Kota, masyarakat makin terbelalak, kecewa dan sadar bahwa moda transportasi ini bukanlah pilihan. Yang lebih mengecawakan, sebagian dari aksi kejahatan itu dilakukan atau setidaknya dibantu oleh supir Angkot. Ini membuat masyarakat takut menggunakan Angkot dan pada gilirannya Angkot semakin tidak diminati masyarakat luas.

Tiga angkot melaju dengan jarak yang sangat dekat di sekitar Palmerah, Jakarta.

Tulisan ini tidak mengulas tentang fenomena kriminalitas di angkutan umum kita. Tetapi saya ingin menunjukkan bahwa selain bertindak KRIMINAL, para supir Angkot juga sebenarnya berprofesi sebagai SALESPERSON. Loh, kok bisa? Mari kita buktikan dengan mencocokkan sifat-sifat, tugas dan fungsi profesi SALESMAN.

Pertama, supir angkot adalah Proactive Salesman. Umumnya, para supir Angkot sangatlah antusias dan bersemangat mencari penumpang. Mereka memegang teguh salah satu prinsip dasar salesmanship, yakni having incredible hunger for business. Saking proaktifnya mereka bekerja, para supir itu bisa kapan saja menelikung ke kiri atau ke kanan ruas jalan secara mendadak hanya untuk menjemput seorang calon penumpang.

Kedua, supir angkot dituntut untuk achieve target. Istilahnya harus nutup setoran atau ngejar setoran. Persis seperti seorang professional salesperson, supir angkot dituntut untuk memperolah pendapatan yang sebanyak-banyaknya dan mencapai target yang telah ditentukan oleh perusahaan. Akibatnya, supir bisa melakukan apa saja untuk mencapai tujuan ini, meski seringkali harus nyerobot lampu merah atau melanggar aturan lalu lintas lainnya.

Ketiga, supir angkot itu rajin follow up & follow through dan memiliki tingkat kesabaran dan kegigihan yang tinggi dealing dengan konsumen. Persis seperti seorang salesman, untuk bisa mendapatkan bisnis dan pendapatan yang besar, para supir sangat rajin dalam bekerja. Pantang mundur dan tak mudah patah semangat dalam menindaklanjuti permintaan. Dengan semangat baja, pagi-pagi sudah ngetem, sabar menunggu calon penumpang meski si calon masih jauh di ujung gang. Akibatnya, laju kendaraan angkot cenderung lambat, bahkan seringkali mandeg diantara ruas jalan karena supir menunggu calon penumpang yang tak kunjung datang.

Keempat, supir angkot itu tough competitor. Prinsip dasar salesmanship yang mereka miliki adalah to maintain a stronger field presence than competition. Antar sesama supir angkot, mereka tak segan “berperang” merebut pasar penumpang. Berbagai cara harus ditempuh guna memenangkan persaingan ini. Diantaranya, mereka harus saling serobot berebut calon penumpang, saling berusaha mendahului, melaju pepet-pepetan, dan bila perlu meneriaki supir angkot lainnya jika nyerempet bodi mobil atau melanggar kode etik persupiran.

Kelima, konsentrasi kerja supir angkot selalu tertuju pada konsumen. Dalam dunia Sales & Marketing, ini disebut dengan prinsip Focus to the Customer, yang merupakan salah satu bagian dari Driving Principles of Effective Sales. Bagi para supir itu, fokus utama adalah melayani penumpang (serve with pride). Apapun resikonya, yang penting penumpang hepi. Demi memenuhi prinsip ini, supir bisa seenaknya, kapan saja, dimana saja dengan tiba-tiba memotong jalan ke lajur kiri jalan demi menenurunkan penumpang. Yah, si supir sangat loyal dan taat pada penumpang, sehingga kalau penumpang bilang ”Tolong turun sini pak,” si supir langsung saja banting setir. Begitupun sebaliknya, bila tiba-tiba ada calon penumpang (sales lead) muncul di pinggir jalan, si supir dengan sigap banting setir ke arah penumpang guna menjemput potensi bisnis yang ada.

Pada akhirnya, yang ingin saya kemukakan adalah, kalau saja para supir Angkot itu tidak dituntut untuk melakukan fungsi-fungsi penjualan, maka tentunya mereka menjadi lebih profesional sebagai supir sejati, ketimbang ugal-ugalan menjadi SALESMAN apalagi berperilaku KRIMINAL.
