60 Minutes to Save the Earth

Manama, Bahrain, April 16th, 2012 – On the evening of March 31st, millions of people around the world showed their support to Earth Hour 2012, Marriott Executive Apartments Manama in Bahrain and Residence Inn by Marriott Manama Juffair participated in the event by turning off non-essential lightings for 1 hour.

It was a successful night; everyone was excited about the Earth Hour. Families, friends and associates showed their support with the Earth Hour by turning off all the non- essential lights and equipments in their apartments, and gathering in the Skyw@lk Café to celebrate a Candle- Lit dinner.


Marriot Executive Apartments switched off exterior lights of its Twin-Tower building, the lights in the lobby area and Restaurant for 60 minutes starting from 8.30pm.

According to the Chief Engineer of Marriott Executive Apartments Manama, Saeed Qureshi, during this hour we saved 20kwh of energy. This kind of activity like Earth Hour is important because it gives voice to the large number of people who are concerned about the climate changes.

Marriott Executive Apartments Manama, during the past years has been really involved in all kind of activities and ecological programs to protect the environment. According to Saeed Qureshi, Marriott has started different ecological programs such as recycling used oil, creating green roof concept, installing timer in all balconies lights (from 12:00 mid-night until 6:00 am, we turn off the lights), planting trees around the building, installing timer in the guest corridors and replacing all normal lamps with energy saving lamps. "By using these energy saving lamps, now we can save more than a thousand Kilowatts a day, It's not a matter of how much dollars you can save, but it's a matter of what you can do to make the earth as a comfortable place to live for our next generation," explained Saeed Qureshi.
