Reviews on Asia Pacific's Property Markets in First Quarter 2012

Average high end residential property prices in eight key markets in the region Asia Pacific rose by 1% in the first quarter of 2012 compared with the last three months of 2011, according to the latest index from Jones Lang LaSalle.

Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta showed increases in the first quarter, Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore showed declines whilst Mumbai was stable.

Jakarta was up 4.3% in the first quarter of this year and in the twelve months to the end of March 2012, delivered the strongest price performance among the monitored markets, with growth of about 16%.

After declining over the past six months, luxury residential prices in Hong Kong showed initial signs of stabilizing, up 1.4% quarter on quarter, largely due to low interest rates and more active mortgage lending by banks.

Average prices in Singapore’s luxury prime market declined by 2% quarter on quarter after remaining stable for six consecutive quarters on the back of on going rental adjustment.

Capital values for luxury apartments in Shanghai fell by 1.2% quarter on quarter, while average prices in Beijing fell by 2.3% as tightening policies remain in place and sales volumes are down in the China Tier I markets.

Kuala Lumpur saw high end capital values up by 6.9% in the first quarter due to some additions to its stock. Capital values would have been largely stable ignoring the change to stock.

‘The first quarter increase is a continuation of a trend we have witnessed over the last 18 to 24 months in the Indonesian residential market, where price increases have been consistently pushed through by developers on the strength of robust demand levels,’ said Todd Lauchlan, country head for Jones Lang LaSalle Indonesia.

‘Demand is being driven by significantly increased affordability, and with record low interest rates, high consumer confidence levels and strong income growth we expect to continue to witness the rise of the Indonesian middle class,’ he added.

UN JOUR EN FRANCE
Institut Prancis di Indonesia / IFI dan Campus France Indonesia serta Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta melaksanakan kerja sama dalam bidang pendidikan, kegiatan ilmiah dan budaya, dimana salah satu perhelatan besar akan dilaksanakan pada tanggal 30 Mei 2012 di Kampus UIN Jakarta. Acara ini dimulai dengan penandatanganan nota kesepahaman antara IFI dan UIN Jakarta yang dilanjutkan dengan peresmian dibukanya cabang IFI baru di Pusat Bahasa Kampus UIN Jakarta.

Selain sambutan dari Rektor UIN Jakarta, Bapak Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat, Yang Mulia Duta Besar Prancis untuk Indonesia, Bapak Bertrand Lortholary turut hadir untuk meresmikan kerja sama ini. Dalam bidang pendidikan, IFI akan mengadakan kelas pengenalan bahasa Prancis, kemudian Campus France Indonesia memberikan presentasi gratis kepada para pengunjung mengenai informasi beasiswa serta studi di Prancis dengan berbagai jenjang.



Berbagai pertunjukan seni dan budaya akan diadakan sepanjang hari, dimulai dari tari tradisional, demonstrasi kuliner Prancis, pemutaran film dan permainan dalam bahasa Prancis. Pada pukul 19.00 malam akan tampil grup musik Jazz asal Prancis, Trio Cédric Hanriot dengan konser bertajuk “French Stories”.


TRIO CÉDRIC HANRIOT
Setelah dua turnya yang sukses di Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Jakarta dan Ambon tahun 2011 lalu, Trio « French Stories » akhirnya kembali lagi ke Indonesia dan menjadi salah satu pengisi acara festival Printemps Français 2012. Kali ini mereka tampil untuk sebuah konser istimewa yang bertempat di Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta dalam rangka Hari Bahasa Prancis dan peresmian kerja sama baru antara IFI dan UIN Jakarta, lokasi dimana IFI akan membuka cabang barunya pada bulan September 2012 nanti.

Pianis dan komposer Cédric Hanriot adalah seorang pengajar yang secara aktif memberikan masterclass dan klinik musik di Eropa, Amerika Utara dan Asia. Bersamaan dengan proyek French Stories-nya, ia sudah pernah bermain dan rekaman bersama raksasa-raksasa jazz seperti Deedee Bridgewater, Cindy Blackman dan Joe Lovano.

Artis jenius ini mengerjakan semua hal. Ia menulis lagu, mengaransemen, memproduksi, memprogram desain suara untuk berbagai proyek musik dalam varian musik yang juga kaya: elektro, pop, RnB, hip hop, blues, jazz, latin, musik-musik Prancis, musik dunia, musik untuk permainan video, video/iklan/jingle.

Dibantu oleh Bertrand Beruard dan Jean-Baptiste Pinet, lewat albumnya « French Stories », ia menyuguhkan kepada kita remake lagu-lagu jazz Prancis yang terkenal, serta kumpulan lagu karya-karyanya sendiri. Dengan bakatnya, Trio Cédric Hanriot mendaur ulang karya Brel dan Piaf tanpa melewatkan karya-karya Nougaro, dan menyajikannya kepada kita dalam bentuk jazz kontemporer di mana terdengar intonasi nada dari bebagai jenis musik : hip-hop, african beat dan electronic.

Terhitung terlambat menggeluti dunia musik, Cédric Hanriot mulai belajar piano dan musik pada usia 21 tahun, setelah ia mendapatkan gelar sarjananya di bidang Elektronik dan Pengelolaan Sinyal Audio. Sebagai pianis, komposer, penggubah musik serta penerima beasiswa bergengsi Franco-Américaine Fulbright, Cédric Hanriot tampil hampir di seluruh penjuru dunia, terutama di tempat-tempat terhormat, seperti di Iridium, New York, AS dan Exposition Universelle 2012 di Shanghai, Cina.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah

Catch a quick glimpse of the 27 provinces of Indonesia by visiting this beautiful "Indonesian in Miniature" Park. Open in 1975, this unique park was the creation of the late Ibu Tien, the former President Soeharto's wife. A man made lake representing a miniature version of the major islands of the archipelago is placed as the major attraction of the park. Thus, around the lake area, 27 traditional-style houses from each respective province serve as a background to the displays of traditional music, dance and ethnic costumes and customs.

The park also feature an Imax theatre, Keong Mas (golden snail), which shows films on Indonesia's islands and diverse culture. There are also several museums worth visiting covering contemporary arts and crafts, philately, transportation, the Asmat culture and many more. In 1998, the paerk opened an opera house named Teater Tanah Airku. The latest addition to the park is an aviary, hosting more than 160 species of Indonesia's rarest birds.

DUBAI – May 2012 – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) is strengthening its position as the leading hotel operator in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with an existing portfolio of nearly 70 hotels and a pipeline of 40 new hotels. This growth, primarily in the luxury and upper-upscale segments, represents an increase of nearly 60% over the next five years. In the past 18 months, Starwood has debuted six new hotels throughout MENA and momentum continues in the region where the company has recently inked deals for 10 additional hotels.

Starwood Expands MENA Footprint

With the openings of six new hotels under five of the company’s unique and compelling lifestyle brands, Starwood has marked a number of key milestones in MENA over the past 18 months, including:


• The launch of its ultra-luxury St. Regis brand in the region with the opening of The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi. This was followed by the recent opening of The St. Regis Doha, marking the brand’s debut in Qatar. Later this year, Starwood will open yet another luxurious St. Regis hotel on Abu Dhabi’s vibrant Corniche, making it the only city in the world to boast two St. Regis hotels.


• The first Westin hotel in Abu Dhabi with The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa.


• The debut of Le Méridien in Algeria with the new Le Méridien Oran, designed by Rockwell Group Europe.

Starwood continues its rapid growth in 2012 with further expansion in key markets, including Saudi Arabia where the company will debut two hotels later this year: the Sheraton Medina and Four Points by Sheraton Medina. Both hotels combined will add nearly 500 rooms to the Holy City and increase Starwood’s portfolio to 12 hotels in the country.

Starwood Signs 10 New Hotel Deals


With more than 70% of the world’s economic growth coming from fast-growing markets over the next few years, Starwood is focused on expansion in developing markets such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Algeria as well as key emerging markets including Iraq, Tajikistan and Pakistan. As part of this strategy, Starwood has recently confirmed 10 hotel projects in the region:

• Four new hotels in Dubai, including three hotels on Sheik Zayed Road under the company’s St. Regis, W Hotels and Westin brands and a second W Hotel in Dubai on The Palm Jumeirah. Together, these four properties will add nearly 1,900 rooms to Dubai by 2017. This further solidifies Starwood’s position as the leading hotel operator in Dubai, where the company currently has 15 hotels under five of its brands, representing the largest concentration of Starwood hotels in a single city outside of New York.


• The launch of the Aloft brand in the emirate of Sharjah, where the company will open a 270-room Aloft hotel in 2015, following the successful debut of Aloft Abu Dhabi in 2009. Starwood will mark its official debut in Sharjah next year with the opening of a Sheraton and a Four Points by Sheraton hotel.


• The entry of Starwood into Tajikistan with the opening of a new Sheraton hotel in the country’s capital city of Dushanbe.


• The re-entry of Starwood into Iraq with the milestone signing of a new Sheraton hotel in Erbil. The 260-room Sheraton Erbil marks Starwood’s return to the country after 20 years and will be complemented by the recently signed 250-room Four Points by Sheraton Erbil which is due to open in 2015.


• Starwood’s fifth hotel in Algeria with the new Sheraton Annaba Hotel, where the company currently operates three hotels. Starwood will open a Four Points by Sheraton in Oran in 2014, introducing the brand to the country.

Penampilannya seperti pesolek (dengan setelah jas lengkap dan pose-pose khasnya yang anggun), Mister Eleganz memiliki kemampuan bermusik yang nyaris sempurna. Mengenai eksistensi para musisi lainnya, ia berpendapat, “Kebanyakan artis sangat amat kurang bersifat arogan. Saya tidak tahan dengan para penyanyi yang gayanya terlalu sederhana.”


Ia juga membuat mitologi tentang dirinya sendiri, dengan mengklaim dirinya sebagai percampuran antara Dean Martin dan Frank Sinatra, seperti serta anak terlantar dari Patti Smith dan Tony Clifton yang lahir di Kentucket, kota pelabuhan kecil yang jaraknya 300km dari laut. Karya legendarisnya dimulai tahun 2007 dengan judul “Girls from New Orleans” yang memiliki ritme liar dan kemudian menjadi perhatian bagi banyak DJ dan produser musik di seluruh dunia. Di Prancis sendiri, Success mengisi berbagai festival musik avant-garde selama bertahun-tahun (Transmusicales Rennes, Marseille Marsatac, ...) yang kemudian memenuhi ramalan mereka sesuai namanya: sukses yang berkembang.

Album perdana mereka "Hard to come back" dipakai sebagai soundtrack “Zombieland”, sebuah film yang mencapai box office di Amerika tahun 2009. Akhir 2010, album kedua Success yang terdiri atas 5 lagu “The Secret” menjadi ruang bagi band ini untuk menunjukkan kekuatan dan energi mereka. Album ini diproduksi dan diarahkan oleh Antoine Cleavers.

“Secara musikal, saya mempunyai divisi Pander di belakang saya.” Seperti inilah cara Mister Eleganz memperkenalkan grup bandnya ke publik, grup yang terdiri atas 3 personil berasal dari Inggris seperti dirinya, dan ia juga menyempatkan bercerita kesuksesan bandnya. Ketiga personil sudah terbiasa dengan tingkah eksentrik Mister Eleganz selama wawancara atau di atas panggung, dan mereka tetap sabar ketika sang penyanyi menyudahi konsernya dengan hanya memakai pakaian dalam ataupun melompat ke penonton dengan berbagai tingkah liarnya.

Karakter jenakanya ini lahir ketika menyaksikan konser Iggy Pop di tahun 2005 di Prancis. Saat itu ia naik ke atas panggung untuk bernyanyi bersama idolanya. Keberanian dan sikapnya yang tidak terkendali ini justru membuat karakternya semakin kuat. Penonton di konser tersebut malah menjadi cemburu dan ingin juga merasakan sepanggung dengan Iggy Pop. Mister Eleganz pun berhasil menarik perhatian semua orang tanpa terkecuali.

Dengan pemimpin band yang eksentrik ini, Success lebih mirip dengan mitos rock versi Prancis. Mereka menegaskan, “Genre kami bukan elektro-rock, tapi rock dengan sentuhan elektro!” Lalu mereka menambahkan, “Success adalah sebuah band rock dimana sentuhan elektro bukan dekorasi semata. Obsesi kami adalah kekuatan.”

Fire Drill at the Marriott Executive Apartments Manama and Residence Inn by Marriott Manama Juffair

Marriott Executive Apartments Manama, Bahrain and Residence Inn by Marriott Manama Juffair recently arranged a successful fire drill which all the employees and heads of departments participated, in order to maintain the Marriott’s strict adherence to the highest safety standards and to deal promptly and efficiently with any fire-related emergency.



The exercise underlined the commitment to ensuring to meet all the Safety International Standards. The drill enabled the management team to test the knowledge of the staff and the validity of on-going, in house training as well as to add to the preparedness of its team in emergencies such as fire incidents.

Ulee Lheue

Ulee Lheue is one of the well-known tourist attractions in Banda Aceh, this place is now known as the zero point of tsunami (which happened in 2004). Ulee Lheue is a departure point to both Pulau Aceh and Pulau Weh. Transport ferries for Pulau Weh leave twice a day, taking two and half an hour. A faster passenger-only ferry also leaves twice a day and takes only 45 minutes. Boats leaving for Pulau Aceh take one and half an hour and there are two crossing per day.

The monument of RI Seulawah

The monument was erected to commemorate Indonesia's Independence in 1945. At this time however, the Dutch intended to re-occupy the country. In the ensuing struggle in 1949, the Republic Indonesia desperately needed aircraft to reach the enemy strongholds as many areas had already fallen into their hands.

The President of Indonesia at this time, Soekarno urgently requested the people of Aceh to donate money towards the purchase of an aircraft. A douglas DC-3 was bought not long afterwards with Acehnese gold. This first aircraft was the precursor of the Garuda Indonesia fleet, which nowadays is the largest airline company in Indonesia as well as a flag carrier of the country.

Kerkoff Peucut

Kerkoff Peucut (Kerkoff Peucut War Memorial) Kerkoff Peucut is the cemetery of the Dutch soldiers who died during the Acehnese war. About 2,200 soldires were buried in this graveyard, including General Kohler.

Their names, location and dates they died are written on the entrance gate of the cemetery.

Gunongan

Gunongan is a man made niniature representation of a mountain, built by Sultan Iskandarmuda for his wife, Putro Phang, who was from Malaysia. The monument and surrounding park served as a recreational area for the queen and royal family members. People enjoy visiting the park in the afternoon for sunset and romantic ambiance.

The Grand Mosque "Baitul al Rahman" (Baiturrahman)

The great Baiturrahman is the main landmark of Banda Aceh today. Located in the heart of the city, this mosque is one of Aceh's prime tourist attractions.

The mosque was built in the 12th century. The mosque suffered throug several fires, including once when Dutch attacked Aceh in 1873. The dutch military government later reconstructed and completed in 1883.

The mosque's architecture and design is extraordinary. It has seven onion shaped domes, four small minarets within the mosque structure, one really tall minaret in from of the entrance gate. Its wide white walls and pillars are beautifully decorated.

After honing their craft in “master classes,” each DJ will be given the chance to put their skills into practice by spinning at signature W Happenings and other sought-after W Hotels events, providing a fresh soundtrack for W guests and local music fans alike.

W Hotels Launches Online Search for Final DJ to Join 2012 Program
For the first time ever, the eighth and final DJ, representing Asia, will be found through an online talent search held by W Hotels Worldwide, in partnership with MIX.dj. Starting today through June 15, aspiring DJs can go to whotels.com/music to upload their mix for the chance to join the 2012 DJ Lab. Uploaded mixes will automatically be entered into the MIX.dj platform where sharing and voting by the public will commence. Those DJs with the highest number of votes will then be selected by the DJ Lab Mentors to perform at various W Hotels in Asia in May and June, showcasing their unique, cutting-edge sounds.

The first of these events will kick off at W Taipei on May 18, where L’Acqua will be on-site at the official Show Off party to witness firsthand the DJs who have submitted mixes for consideration. On May 26, W Hong Kong will host its first Summer Series pool party of the season, giving the DJs additional platforms for exposure. Finally, W Seoul will welcome 2011 DJ Lab participant, DJ Angus Wong, on June 1 for a W Happening featuring select DJs from the online search, industry tastemakers and VIPs. The search will end on June 15 and the winner announced as the 2012 DJ Lab commences in July.

Starwood’s mid-market portfolio, which includes Aloft, Element and Four Points by Sheraton, is expected to open its milestone 250th hotel by the end of the year, with 26 more hotels scheduled to debut in 2012. In North America alone, Starwood expects to open another 14 mid-market hotels before the end of the year, bringing its total in North America to 175. Starwood’s mid-market portfolio has grown over 40 percent since the first quarter of 2009 reflecting its worldwide appeal.

Four Points will debut a total of 11 properties in the U.S. in 2012. In China, one of the hottest growth markets for both Four Points and Starwood, the brand will open seven new hotels this year. Four Points will make its debut in Saudi Arabia and the Dominican Republic; new Four Points properties will also open in Malaysia and Canada. With the scheduled openings, Four Points will command a presence in 30 countries and territories, up from 28 at the end of 2011.
